Laptop repairs across Brisbane, on-site or in the shop
A laptop that will not start, or a screen you cannot read, stops your day whether it is a work machine or the family computer. Cheap Geek has been repairing laptops in Brisbane since 2014, and we work the way that suits you: a technician comes to your home or office, or you drop the machine in to our shop in the Anzac Square Arcade on Adelaide Street.
There is no call-out fee either way. You pay $159 for the first hour, and $2.65 a minute after that. Most repairs are finished inside that first hour.
What we fix
Most laptop problems fall into a handful of categories, and we see all of them every week.
It will not turn on. Sometimes that is the charger or the battery, sometimes it is the power circuitry, and occasionally it is a machine that is drawing power but not displaying anything. Diagnosis comes first — we tell you which it is before anything is replaced.
The screen is cracked, black, or flickering. A dropped laptop and a laptop with a failed display cable look identical to the owner and are very different repairs.
It has slowed to a crawl. Age is rarely the real cause. Startup programs, a drive that has run out of room, a failing hard drive, or an infection are all far more common, and all of them are fixable. Where a machine genuinely has reached the end of what its hardware can do, we will say so rather than sell you an upgrade that will not help.
It is running hot, or the fan is loud. Dust and aged thermal paste make laptops throttle themselves, which the owner experiences as the machine getting slower every year.
It will not connect. Wi-Fi that drops out can be the laptop, the router, or where you are sitting in the house. We check which before recommending anything.
Windows will not start. Blue screens, boot loops and failed updates are recoverable far more often than people expect, and your files are usually fine even when the operating system is not.
Your files come first
Before we do anything that touches a drive, the priority is your data — photos, documents and email. If a drive has failed outright we can talk about recovery options, and if the machine is being replaced we can move everything across to the new one.
Windows and Mac
Our technicians work on both. A MacBook that will not boot and a Windows laptop that will not boot are different jobs, and we do not hand one of them to a subcontractor.
What it costs
$159 for the first hour, no call-out fee, and $2.65 a minute after the first hour. The minimum charge is one hour.
That per-minute detail matters more than it sounds. Most Brisbane repairers bill in 15 or 30-minute blocks, so a job that runs ten minutes over the hour costs you a full extra block. With us, ten minutes costs ten minutes.
Same-day service carries no surcharge. If a repair needs a part, we will tell you the cost before we order it.
Booking
Call 1300 241 944 and we will book the first available technician, or drop in to the shop Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm. We are a Brisbane-owned business and have been repairing computers here since 2014.
